dresscode essay

My view on dress code                                                          By: Sydney Kerr                                                                                   I have a lot of positive and negative feelings about the dress code here at Mary Phillips. A lot of these have changed throughout my time here. However, I have a lot more positive feelings than negative.                                                                                                                 In a way, I do like the dress code because I know what I’m going to wear the next day. I started to really get use to it. At first I thought I was going to hate it. Now I see that, it is really convenient to know what you are going to wear the next day; therefore I get ready so much faster. This makes me start my day better.                                                           I also like it because it’s not that structured. When I say this I mean that they make it so that you can wear just a black or white shirt (which everyone has). The dress code also makes it convenient for people like me who aren’t trying to spend a lot of money on clothes.  This is because you can just wear what you basically already have.                                      The negative thing or the thing I do not like about dress code is that your jacket is included in your dress code. This can really be an issue to average person because most people do not have a solid gray, white, or black coat. I feel like the coat shouldn’t matter because can’t everyone go out and buy coats and shouldn’t have to. As long as you follow the main dress code the coat shouldn’t be an issue. This is really the only negative thing about it.                                                          Basically to sum it all up, the dress code has it’s a advantages and disadvantages. For the most part it has been positive on me. It’s been positive due to my look on it. Due to the fact, that I now get up faster and can spend less money on clothes I can spend more money on my daughter and get up and still go to school.

Big Beast Causes Chaos           By: Sydney Kerr                      Wednesday at 12 noon, the 20 foot elephant Gia ran through the bazaars of Moulmein, lower Burma after she escaped from the care of her mahout, Jake Minor. This wild elephant was suspected to have escaped early morning around 4 o’ clock.
She was first spotted when she ran through the bazaars, demolished a bamboo hut, stormed fruit stalls, devoured the stock, and murdered a cow. The inhabitants of the town alerted constable, Eric Blair to come diffuse the situation and attempt to tame the elephant. He arrived at the scene roughly 30 minutes prior to being contacted. Witnesses say that the elephant murdered a coolie of the community, Tim Johnstin. The man was found dead a couple blocks from where the elephant was present. Eric Blair brought the animal down slowly by firing a round of shots at the gigantic elephant. After a few rounds, she slowly died. That concludes the big beast in Burma.

Beowulf compare and contrast essay

Beowulf compare and contrast                                                                                   By: Sydney Kerr                                                                                                                 I found numerous differences between the movie and the text “Beowulf”.  Being that Beowulf was not really written by anyone in particular it’s a tale that was passed down.  Like any other tale like this, it is told and portrayed in many different ways.                                                                                                                                                       For example, in the text the protagonist Beowulf goes back to Sweden after his victory. This is where he resided before. However in the movie, he goes to Denmark and becomes king of the Danes. After Beowulf kills Grendel and he saves Denmark he is a hero. In both the text in the movie everyone is happy and welcomes him back.                                                                                                                          Also another difference from the text and the movie is that, Grendel attacks Herot while everyone is awake. The people of Herot  were celebrating and partying. Although, in the text, Grendel attacked while everyone was fast asleep. In both the text and the movie, they still weren’t expecting him to attack at all. Therefore, it was sneaky.                                                                                                                                                Another big difference from the movie and text is that, in the text Beowulf kills Grendel’s Mom instantly. However in the movie, Beowulf is seduced by her and they make love. Resulting from that, they had a human beast creature son. Although, they say he returned and said he killed her it’s a controversy there.                                                                               Finally with all this being said, the movie was fairly different in a few ways. Although, they also were fairly similar. They portrayed Beowulf in the same heroic way, but there are still a few differences in the events that happened and that what makes the movie and the book fairly different and unique.

The Devil and Tom Walker

I can infer from this text that Tom has a great amount of integrity because he refused to become a slave trader. The author indirectly told me this from the text because the narrator said "This, however, Tom resolutely refused; he was bad enough in all conscience; but the devil himself could not tempt him to turn slave dealer". Although the narrator did not just come out and say he has integrity, I know this because he has to have integrity to turn down the most popular way for the white man to get free labor or better known as slaves. If the "devil himself" cannot make him become a slave trader then he feels very strongly about it and this shows his integrity.                                                                                                                                         That brings me into my next inference. I can infer that Tom is arrogant because he thinks his sins are better than the next person's. The author indirectly told me this by saying "Tom was rigid in religious, as in money matters; he was stern supervisor and censurer of his neighbours, and seemed to think every sin entered up to their account became a credit on his own side of the the page". This means that he is arrogant because he feels that he is better than everyone else because his sins are not as bad as the next person's. He also feels that everything bad they are doing makes him look better, but in reality he is just as bad.                              By using the same quote I used in the previous paragraph, I can infer that Tom is in denial because  thinks that his sins are better than all of his peers in his neighborhood, he is not seeing that all sins are bad sins. Tom is not making taking responsibility for what he does. Its very in denial to think that what you are doing is okay when you are doing equal wrong.                                                                                                           The theme of this story is Greed. I chose this because in the story Tom is fighting for wealth and power and not considering others and scamming people out of money and ends up being captured by the devil. When he is captured he was caught of guard and not ready to face his sins. So I think this story hold a valuable lesson that you shouldn't be selfish or greedy because you can still end up with nothing.

The boy who cried wolf

The theme of this childhood story is don't lie because when you are telling the truth people will not believe you. In this story a boy is crying wolf to scare people and to be funny. The boy is taking advantage of all the people who run to his side at the sign of danger. He thinks its funny to make people believe that the dangerous wolf has come.By him doing this too many times, the village no longer believes him and won't come to his rescue and when the wolf really does come and eats all the crops the young boy learns a valuable lesson that dishonesty will lead to distrust.
